In our family we used to dye eggs with onion skins. It is very simple. This year I modified the recipe a little.
So, you will need:
- onion skins. I start recollect it in Christmass, so for the Easter I have a bag full of onion skins. The onion I use is the common one.
- Eggs
- Pieces of laces.
- Water
- Vinegar (optional)
- Stainless steel Saucepan

The onion for the dye.
Place the onion skins in a stainless steel saucepan add water. Bring to boil, cover and simmer about 30 min.
Leave it for the night. You can boil it again to reduce water so the dye will be more concentrated.
Wash eggs with a hot water and put it for a while in a vinegar and water solution.
Tie different shape lace to recerve it from dye.
To make the decoration a little bit finer you can stich the lace. It will take more time but the result is better.
Add the onion dye and cook the eggs as you usually do.
Finaly remove eggs with a spoon and cold it on a paper towel.
This is result of boiling the eggs about 4-5 min.

my granny did it the same way!
ReplyDeleteVery nice story!
ReplyDeleteGood idea about lace!!!
Nice -) I remember from my childhood... we took one leaf of parsley, put it flat in nylon stoking, put there an egg, and on the other side of the leaf tightened the stoking. So the egg after the coloring had a leaf on the surface :)))
ReplyDeletewow, what a great lace idea! looks great
ReplyDeleteIrina, great idea with a nylon stoking! Few years ago I tied leaves with a thread. I will try to use a stoking as well.
